Performing Arts – Opera

Opera is a type of performing art, which includes musicians and singers that perform a dramatic piece which combines vocals which are known as libretto and musical score. When going to see an opera show you should expect to see different types of spoken theatre, including acting, scenery and costume and on the rare occasion dance. Opera shows usual take place in an opera house. It was in the 16th century in Italy when opera was introduced and was soon popular around the all of Europe. The word opera in Italian means “work” and the first showing was a piece by Jacopo Peri called “Dafne”.

Good opera voices have to be big in volume and need to be heard over the music played by the orchestra. For a long time of opera being around they wasn’t the use of microphones, techniques had to be used so all of the audience could here the opera singing aswell as the orchestra, you could say the singing is classed as an instrument.

The most famous classical composer to date has to be Mozart, he was the composer of over 600 works. He started composing at the incredible are of 5. He was so influential he was the composer who influenced another famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Both of these composers being a very big influence on the opera scene to this date.
